Tropical Storm Hanna ApproachingHanna is expected to reach the Baltimore/Washington metro areas as a Tropical Storm on Saturday. Four to eight inches of rainfall are expected. Sustained winds of 25-35 MPH are possible beginning Saturday morning and gusts to 50 MPH are possible. Secure items in your yard that may blow around in high winds (flags, lawn furniture, etc.) Help prevent street flooding by clearing storm drains near your home of trash or branches. Report electrical outages to BGE at 1-877-778-2222. If conditions in the City warrant it, City Hall will be open around the clock to provide residents with information and to assist in removing downed trees on city streets. Information from the City government will also be shared via Alert Bowie, the City website, the government channel (Verizon 10/Comcast 71), recorded messages on the City Hall phone system and Washington area television/radio stations. Please check these sources during and after the storm regarding the opening of cooling centers/shelters or the relaxing of yardwaste rules. In connection with the burglaries that occurred in Bowie late last month, the suspect has turned himself in on the 1st Degree Burglary charge. The investigation is ongoing. Inquiries should be directed to the Prince George's County Police Department's Detective Division at 301-390-2100.

A warrent for 1st Degree Burglary has been issued for George Victor Green. The warrant is the result of a joint investigation into burglaries in Bowie by the Bowie Police Department and the Prince George's County Police Department. The investigation was aided by numerous citizen tips. We are appreciative of all of the community support and information that was cruicial in the identification of Mr. Green. We encourage all residents to always remain vigilant and build crime prevention practices into their daily lives. The City has recently experienced a number of night time/early morning burglaries. The burglaries are occurring between 12 AM and 5 AM. Entry is being made through garage windows and sliding glass doors. Please make sure that all of your doors and windows are locked and report any suspicious activity to 301-333-4000. This forecast means air quality is expected to be unhealthy for all individuals. Children, the elderly and individuals with heart or respiratory ailments, emphysema, asthma or chronic bronchitis should restrict outdoor activities. Healthy individuals should limit strenuous outdoor work or exercise and outdoor activities. Approximately 60 to 70 percent of the pollutants that cause ground-level ozone are created from vehicles, lawn mowers, other garden equipment and common household products. Actions to Protect Your Health: Children should reduce outdoor activities.
